MKS Unveils Spectra-Physics® Advanced Ultrafast Lasers for Bio-Imaging and Research

Two New Ultrafast Laser Sources Deliver Leading Performance and Stability

Andover, MA - January 30, 2018 MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) announces the introduction of its Spectra-Physics® Element™ 2, a family of high performance ultrafast oscillators, and the 60 W pumped Spirit-NOPA-VISIR, a high-energy ultrafast infrared source for bio-imaging. The new Element 2 delivers ultrashort pulses, down to few-cycle pulse durations, with outstanding stability and optional carrier envelope phase (CEP) stabilization for ultrafast research applications, including attosecond science. Spirit-NOPA-VISIR pumped with 60 W from the recently introduced Spirit 1030-70 outputs up to twice the energy of competitive products for deepest 3-photon, live tissue imaging in neuroscience and other ultrafast scientific applications.

"Delivering the incredible combination of cutting-edge performance with proven stability, these new ultrafast laser sources truly open the door to the most demanding ultrafast research applications," says Herman Chui, senior director of product marketing for Spectra-Physics lasers. "With these new introductions, we further advance our industry-leading portfolio of ultrafast lasers for bio-imaging and scientific research."

The newly introduced Element 2 family provides superior power stability and CEP stability with hands-free operation for the most challenging ultrafast applications. Available in 8 standard models, Element 2 offers ultrashort few-cycle pulses down to <7 fs and non-CEP stabilized average power up to 1.2 W. The optional Femtolock™ 2 enables synchronization to external sources, making them ideally suitable for powering leading-edge experiments at synchrotron or free-electron laser facilities.

Spirit-NOPA-VISIR, when pumped with the Spirit 1030-70, delivers high-energy tunable laser output across the visible and infrared spectrum. With typical pulse energies of 2 µJ at 1.3 µm and 1.2 µJ at 1.7 µm wavelengths, the new laser source is ideal for 3-photon imaging.

Spectra-Physics' Element 2 and Spirit-NOPA-VISIR ultrafast laser sources will be featured at Photonics West, San Francisco, California, January 30 - February 1, 2018. Please visit MKS at booth 507 at Photonics West for a demonstration. For more information, please see spectra-physics.com/element-2 and spectra-physics.com/spirit-nopa.
