MKS Launches Spectra-Physics® >45 W UV Lasers with Disruptive Cost-Performance

New Talon 355-45 Enables Fast Micromachining at Lowest Cost per Part

Andover, MA - January 30, 2018 MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) announces the introduction of its Spectra-Physics® Talon® 355-45, a high-power UV addition to its highly successful Talon family of Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers. With over 45 Watts of UV power and sustained high power and low noise at high repetition rates, Talon 355-45 enables micromachining of thicker materials and results in faster UV processing at a significantly lower cost per part. The new laser is ideal for industrial manufacturing of PC boards, electronic components, semiconductors, flat panel displays, lithium ion batteries, and LEDs for consumer electronics, clean energy, and other demanding applications.

"With its highly compelling combination of performance, reliability and cost, Talon has become the industry standard for UV lasers in 24/7 manufacturing," says Herman Chui, senior director of product marketing for Spectra-Physics lasers. "Talon 355-45 enables new applications and major advances in micromachining throughput, process and materials capability, and manufacturing cost per part."

Talon 355-45 outputs over 45 W UV at 150 kHz repetition rate and delivers high power, high pulse-to-pulse stability, and excellent beam quality at high repetition rates up to 500 kHz. Available in 11 interchangeable versions with identical optical, electrical, and software interfaces and common boresighting, Talon lasers allow system integrators to flexibly and rapidly configure machine tools for specific applications and end user requirements. These lasers' "It's in the Box™" design combines power supply and laser head into a single, common rugged package for simple integration and straightforward switching between models. Talon lasers have passed extensive environmental qualification testing, and each laser is subjected to rigorous production tests to ensure high reliability for operation in 24/7 applications and lowest cost of ownership.

The Spectra-Physics Talon 355-45 will be featured at Photonics West, San Francisco, California, January 30 - February 1, 2018. Please visit MKS at booth 507 at Photonics West for a demonstration. For more information, please see spectra-physics.com/talon.
