MKS Debuts Spectra-Physics® Industrial UV Picosecond Laser with Disruptive Cost-Performance

New IceFyre 355-30 Laser Ideal for 5G FPC and OLED Displays

Andover, MA - February 5, 2019 MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) introduces its Spectra-Physics®IceFyre® 355-30, a high power, industrial UV picosecond hybrid fiber laser with industry-changing cost-performance and proven stability and reliability. The laser offers unprecedented versatility with TimeShift™ ps programmable pulse flexibility, pulse-on-demand and position synchronized output (PSO) triggering. IceFyre 355-30 is the industry's smallest UV picosecond laser in its class and combines power supply and laser head in a rugged, compact package for easy integration into machine tools. The new laser is ideal for cold micromachining in high throughput manufacturing of 5G flexible printed circuits (FPC), flat panel OLED displays, solar cells, ceramics, plastics, and other materials and devices.

"IceFyre 355-30 redefines the market for UV picosecond industrial lasers," says Dave Allen, senior vice president and general manager for Spectra-Physics lasers. "With its highly compelling combination of performance, reliability and cost, the new laser is an enabler for high volume precision manufacturing applications in consumer electronics, renewable energy and industrial applications."

Adding to the successful family of IceFyre picosecond lasers, IceFyre 355-30 delivers >30 W average power and up to >60 µJ pulse energy typical at 355 nm with adjustable repetition rates from single shot up to 3 MHz. The new laser's TimeShift™ ps programmable pulse capability results in flexible burst mode operation with adjustable burst shape, pulse separation and number of pulses in a burst, all with high UV power available.

IceFyre 355-30 leverages Spectra-Physics'; technology and experience into an efficient patent-pending design, yielding high performance at unparalleled cost-performance. The laser has passed extensive environmental qualification testing to ensure high reliability. Fully automated and computer controlled, the laser has exceptional power and beam pointing stability during 24/7 operation, ensuring high precision and reproducibility for demanding applications. Spectra-Physics' IceFyre 355-30 laser will be featured at SPIE Photonics West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, February 5 to 7, 2019. Please visit MKS at booth #927 for a demonstration.
