MKS Boosts Industry-Leading Power for Quantum Applications with New Spectra-Physics® Tunable Lasers

>7.2 W Power with 300 nm Tuning Range and <20 kHz Linewidth

Andover, MA - February 4, 2020 - MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) introduces new improved industry-leading specifications on its Spectra-Physics® Matisse® family of tunable lasers with the highest power of >7.2 W, widest mode-hop-free tuning range and narrowest linewidth. The Matisse family of lasers is ideal for quantum applications and Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) physics, including quantum computing research, atomic and molecular cooling, precision spectroscopy, optical clocks, microcavity resonators and sensors, and other quantum applications.

"The new improved Matisse family of tunable lasers offers an unprecedented combination of frequency stability, high power, narrow linewidth and mode-hop-free wide tuning range," says Herman Chui, senior director of product marketing for Spectra-Physics lasers. "Together with our portfolio of tunable diode lasers, tapered amplifiers, detectors, modulators, frequency-locking electronics, vacuum gauges and components, and opto-mechanical components, the new lasers further extend the MKS leadership of Surround the Workpiece® solutions for quantum applications and AMO."

The compact version Matisse C delivers an output power of >7.2 W at 780 nm with continuous mode-hop-free wavelength tuning from 700 to 1000 nm for true hands-free operation. Three models are available with different levels of passive and active frequency stabilization for linewidths down to <20 kHz. The Matisse 2 delivers the same industry-leading performance as Matisse C, while offering maximum flexibility with the option to swap optics and upgrade to a dye gain medium in the field, supporting tuning from 550 to 1038 nm. Superior optomechanical design and reference cell technology enables exceptional stability and narrowest linewidth.

The new improved Matisse lasers along with MKS’ Surround the Workpiece portfolio for quantum applications will be featured at SPIE Photonics West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, February 4-6, 2020. Please visit MKS at booth #927 at SPIE Photonics West for a demonstration. For more information, please see spectra-physics.com/matisse.
