Christiane Lehner
Production Worker, laser technology

“Changing from catering to laser technology - thanks to the cooperation between Spectra-Physics and the Inplacement Foundation by the AMS, I was given the opportunity of a career change six years ago. With external and internal training courses, the company gave me the opportunity to show what I can do in an innovative company. Today I build lasers and I am really proud of my job.”

Gaining First Work Experience

We are always interested in helping pupils and students to gain their first work experience with us. We therefore provide internship places and, each summer, vacation positions and look forward to welcoming young and dynamic people.

Wolfgang Sinz
Production Services

“I have worked for Spectra-Physics (former High Q Laser) since 2008. I started as laser engineer for prototype and pre-series laser for our largest OEM customer. In addition I was mainly responsible to improve the lasers’ quality and cycle time. At the moment I am developing an assembly information and data capturing system for our laser production, which will improve and simplify later analysis. I greatly enjoy working in a very qualified team and the diverse possibilities to contribute your own skills to this company. ”

Diversity Makes Us Better

The team at Spectra-Physics consists of open-minded, dynamic people who are young or young at heart and have a great passion for high-tech. They are physicists, mechatronics engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, hardware and software developers. They come from Vorarlberg, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Italy, India and other countries. And they have one thing in common: based on their knowledge, on precision and on teamwork they create highly sophisticated technical innovations.

Dominik Fuchs
Head of Electronics Development

“I started my first job in 2001 as Electronics Development Engineer in the field of ultrafast lasers. I was able to learn many interesting things in this field. Although I was able to take on exciting tasks, I chose to widen my professional experience by joining another company. But I soon returned to Spectra-Physics and am now responsible for Electronics Development in the company. Spectra-Physics gives me the perfect opportunity to apply my technical knowledge in the development of high-tech lasers in the context of a multi-disciplinary and international project team. I like this exacting work within an open-minded and very positive company culture.”

Bachelor Degree Course in Electrical Engineering (Dual)

The bachelor degree course in Electrical Engineering (dual) combines a degree course at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV) with practical training in a company. That means that both the university and the company take responsibility for parts of the training.

For you as a student this means:

  • You will spend time periods alternately at the university and with Spectra-Physics.
  • When you are with us, you will gain valuable experience.
  • You start your career while still a student.
  • You will receive a salary while still a student.

During the first year you will be given solid basic training at the FHV. Should you have had relevant technical training, for example by passing the "HTL-Matura", you may be able to skip large parts of the first semester – or even start by going straight into the second semester. From the third semester you will be employed at Spectra-Physics and will have a regular income. Possible work areas cover a wide range of electrical and electronic engineering subjects. For your specialist subject at the FHV course you can choose a subject that is associated with the industry of our company, such as Energy Technology or Technical Information Technology.

For further information on the study course, the application deadlines, the application conditions and other details please visit the FHV website. For information from us as the company partner please contact Bernadette Herburger, bernadette.herburger@spectra-physics.at, Tel.: +43 5522 82646 182.

Dirk Mortag
R&D Laser Scientist

“I joined Spectra-Physics in 2013 as a R&D Laser Scientist and my main tasks include laser system design, leading product development projects and coordinating a multidisciplinary team. It is fascinating to me when initial ideas turn into high-tech products that are utilized worldwide. Those whose eyes had been corrected by LASIK had very likely literally looked in one of our femtosecond lasers. What I particularly like about working for Spectra-Physics is being part of an excellent team and the possibility to contribute to the development process at the forefront of science and technology.”
