Spectra-Physics is a proven volume supplier of industrial lasers, and each year, we manufacture and deploy thousands of lasers serving demanding applications. Our world-class operations start with our highly experienced cross-functional team from critical capital equipment industries including lasers, semiconductors, flat panel displays, PCBs, medical, and automotive. We manufacture our lasers in state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities, and our extensive optical coating capability (equipment, processes and know-how) results in high optical damage threshold and precision dispersion control – necessary for UV, ultrafast, and high energy lasers. We employ rigorous methodologies including 5S, statistical process control, and lean manufacturing – the result is an on-time delivery performance averaging ~99% and warranty cost averaging ~1%. For volume ramps, we have extensive experience in delivering rapid capacity increases to support customer requirements in demanding industries such as consumer electronics.

From the start, we design our lasers for reliability by using proven components, modeling thermal and stress characteristics, performing extensive risk analysis, and engaging reliability and manufacturing engineers early in the design process. We qualify our lasers at the component level and again at the system level with a battery of tests ranging from shock and vibration to temperature cycling and humidity. In the production line, we manufacture our lasers to the highest standards for quality, employing statistical process controls and extensive ISO procedures. Before leaving the factory, our lasers are subjected to rigorous production screening tests to further ensure highest reliability.
